Although these methods permitted natural airflow, they lacked the ability to regulate indoor temperature, frequently resulting in the loss of conditioned warm air and its replacement with unconditioned, cooler external air. This thermal imbalance typically necessitated increased heating demand, thereby elevating energy consumption and utility costs. In response to these inefficiencies, contemporary building practices have transitioned toward airtight construction methodologies designed to minimise uncontrolled air infiltration. This paradigm shift has underscored the need for controlled ventilation systems capable of preserving indoor air quality without undermining thermal performance. Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) systems have become the preferred solution, supplying continuous fresh air intake while extracting excess humidity and airborne contaminants—achieving this with minimal energy penalty by transferring heat from exhaust air to incoming air.

Elicent Rec Duo Plus 100 RC is a decentralised heat recovery unit that brings fresh filtered air into the space with heat recovered from outgoing air. It achieves up to 90% heat recovery and is operable by remote control. With magnetic coupling/uncoupling of the unit, installation is easy and is equipped with a sensor and timer.
